Facilitation Services

My facilitation approach is delivered from a Te Ao Māori lens and is underpinned by upholding and giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Mātauranga Māori is interwoven throughout my approach including upholding the tikanga and kawa of mana whenua.

MY PROCESS

  • Following our 30-minute virtual kōrero, I will provide you with a proposal including an estimated quote. Upon agreement on the proposal, a 50% deposit will be necessary to proceed with the next steps. Please visit FAQ to find out about what costs are involved in the quote

  • Engaging with participants:

Active involvement from participants during the planning phase is crucial for a successful event.

Therefore, once the deposit has been received, the next step will involve introducing myself to the participants through email and sharing a survey with them.

The survey responses will form the basis for shaping the agenda/s.

If the expectations of the participants go beyond the original agreement outlined in the proposal, we will have a discussion about it, and I will provide recommendations accordingly.

The survey will include questions like:

    • What is the topic of discussion and what makes this an issue worth talking about?

    • Who will be affected by this change? Who needs to participate in this kōrero?

    • What practical/tangible result will you need at the end of this engagement? and when?

    • What thinking and decisions are required to make this engagement successful?

    • What experience would you like to have throughout this engagment?

  • Once the agenda/s have been finalised I will start the preparation for delivery. Facilitation tools, techniques, and a Te Ao Māori approach will be carefully selected to create the workshop experience

If necessary, logistics such as venue, travel for participants, catering, and koha for guest speakers/mana whenua will need to be arranged by your organisation

  • After the workshops are completed, I will offer a survey to gather feedback on the session and then provide a summary of the workshop during a debrief session.

What on Earth is Facilitation?

The Zen of Groups, Dale Hunter, Anne Bailey and Bill Taylor say: "Group facilitation is the art of guiding the group towards agreed objectives. A facilitator guides the process and does not get involved in the content. A facilitator intervenes to protect the group process and keep the group on track to fulfil its task.” (Hunter et al, 1992)

Trusting in the process to unlock the wisdom in the room and unleash human potential is truly powerful. That means that no hui, engagement, or outcome is the same and that’s what I love best!

"Facilitation is the art of guiding people through a process towards agreed upon objectives in a manner that encourages participation, equity, ownership, full potential and creativity by all those involved.”

(Technology of Participation Group Facilitation Methods Manual ICAA)

As a trained Technology of Participation (ToP™) facilitator in association with Participatory Techniques Ltd our philosophy is driven by the following principles:

  • we create inclusive and participatory spaces where power imbalances are set aside to foster authentic dialogue and sharing of ideas in a way that unleashes creativity and full human potential

  • our events are highly collaborative and harness diversity to create new, fresh ways of solving problems. We make every minute count and ensure the group identifies clear conclusions, and a clear pathway forward

  • we operate in accordance with the International Association of Facilitators Code of Ethics: we work to the needs of the participants and provide independent neutral facilitation where the products developed are designed by the group

  • we are process design experts and work in partnership with all participants to map out the steps required to help your group navigate the planning, delivery and follow-up stages
