The New Zealand Comedy Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that develops, promotes, and supports the comedy industry in Aotearoa, including running the NZ International Comedy Festival. It works to grow a sustainable, diverse comedy scene by creating opportunities, supporting artists, and championing comedy as an important art form.

As part of their te ao Māori journey, the board of trustees sought to develop a Māori strategy to increase Māori representation in comedy, ensure cultural responsiveness, and give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
