Penu (Rongo-i-te-Kai) Marae

Penu (Rongo-i-te-Kai) Marae, located in Makarika near Ruatōrea, is a Marae of Te Aitanga a Mate, a hapū of Ngāti Porou. In June 2024, whānau gathered to co-design a 100-year strategic plan grounded in whakapapa, whenua, and intergenerational aspiration. Over two days, we mapped our whakapapa connections, explored our collective history, and visualised the future of Penu 100 years from now.

Through the Consensus Workshop Method, the whānau created a new vision – Te Penu me te Kō – alongside four strategic pou, success measures, and a tohu that reflects our shared aspirations. This wānanga was filled with pride, kōrero tuku iho, and a strong sense of kotahitanga. Penu selected AraHina’s Strategic and Annual Plan package, perfect for marae who want to shape a long-term strategy while also creating a clear annual action plan to guide, activate, and measure progress.
